Duvet and Quilt: What's the Difference?
Share
When buying a quilt or duvet, you may have questions about the differences. When are they used? How? We'll explain everything here.
Quilt
"Bedspread" is the name given to bedding designed to be used as the top layer of a bed. Bedspreads, quilts, and comforters fall into this category.
The bedspread can be decorative or simple, heavy or light. They are typically used alone, with only a sheet and blanket underneath for colder nights, but they can also be used solely for decorative purposes.

Quilt
Thick and sometimes quilted, a duvet differs from a quilt in that the colors are generally solid, in addition to being thicker.
Duvets are typically used in colder seasons, as they are filled with layers of material that include polyester fiber (a synthetic fiber), feathers, wool, or down. The thickness of the filling determines the weight, as well as the level of insulation.
In short, bedspreads are often used as decorative items and during warmer seasons. For colder nights, opt for a duvet with bedding underneath.
